About me I was born in Germany and as such am a native speaker. Initially I qualified to teach German as Foreign Language (DaF) during my studies at Bremen University through the Goethe Institut in Munich. From 1999 onwards I worked as an English teacher for different organizations such as “Bremer Volkshochschule” and “Deutsche Angestellten Akademie” (DAA). During that time I attended further training courses for adult education, both in Germany and the UK. In autumn 2014 I moved to Brighton, UK, where I qualified as a CELTA trained English teacher and initially taught English at a local language school in Hove. However, over the years teaching German as a foreign language has become my main focus and at present I enjoy teaching both individuals as well as groups of all levels and ages. At the same time, I have started offering German GCSE exam preparation (Lower and Higher Tier) and –being aware that this time can be rather stressful for the pupil-it is my aim to keep the young student focused and motivated throughout this process. Singing has always been an important part of my life and I have been an active musician in bands and as the singing half of the duo KokoTD for more than 20 years. Wehave performed at festivals, on Bremen TV and in clubs in Germany and I feel privileged to still go back to there once in a while to take part in the odd gig. At the same time I have started performing as the singing part of the duo “Johanna Is Back” in and around Brighton & Hove and hope to become an established musician over here too. I support the work of MEP (Migrant English Project) in Brighton as a volunteer and teach English there on a regular basis.		Über Mich Ich bin in Deutschland geboren und Deutsch-Muttersprachlerin. Ursprünglich habe ich mich während meines Studiums an der Bremer Universität zur DaF-Dozentin (Deutsch als Fremdsprache) qualifiziert (Goethe Institut München). Von 1999 an arbeitete ich als Englisch-Dozentin für verschiedene Institute, u.a. die Bremer Volkshochschule und die Deutsche Angestelltenakademie (DAA) und nahm regelmäßig an "Teacher Training"-Fortbildungen sowohl in Deutschland als auch in UK teil. Im Herbst 2014 zog ich nach Brighton/ UK, wo ich das CELTA-Zertifikat erwarb und unterrichtete zunächst nur Englisch ein einer hiesigen Sprachschule. Mit der Zeit hat sich jedoch für mich die Vermittlung der deutschen Sprache hier immer mehr zu meiner Haupttätigkeit entwickelt und daher biete ich nun hauptsächlich Deutschunterricht für Einzelpersonen sowohl als auch für Gruppen (AnfängerInnen und Fortgeschrittene) an. Gleichzeitig habe ich damit begonnen, Schüler und Schülerinnen auf ihre German GCSE-Prüfung vorzubereiten (Lower und Higher Tier). Mir ist bewußt, wie stressvoll diese Prüfungszeit für sie sein kann. Als an diesem Prozess beteiligte Lehrerin ist es mir daher wichtig, meine SchülerInnen stets zu ermutigen und zu motivieren . Singen war mir von je her wichtig und so bin ich als Sängerin seit über 20 Jahren aktiv in Bands und dem Duo KokoTD , u.a. durch TV- Auftritte, Festivals und Club Konzerte in Deutschland. Ich freue mich darüber, dass ich nach wie vor in meiner alten Heimat gelegentlich Konzerte in diesem Format geben kann. Außerdem singe ich nun hier als Teil des Duos „Johanna Is Back“ (mit Steve Lloyd an der Gitarre) und ich hoffe, dass ich mich so in Zukunft auch in Brighton & Hove als Sängerin etablieren kann. Ich unterstütze die Arbeit von MEP (Migrant English Project) in Brighton und unterrichte dort ehrenamtlich Englisch.


About my music I have got more than 20 years experience in the German acoustic-rock duo “KokoTD” with guitarist/singer Thomas Dülcks and have also performed with other tribute bands. My favourite music ranges from Springsteen to the Who to Fleetwood Mac to any other good song! Over here in the UK I feel lucky to have found a fellow musician with a similar taste in music in guitarist Steve Lloyd and together we are currently working on a cover music project, named “Johanna Is Back”. I am always interested in fine musicianship and I am open to team up with other musicians for pub- or club-gigs and other occasions.
